– GOLF SWING TIP OF THE MONTH

SWINGING THE GOLF CLUB TOO MUCH TO THE INSIDE ON THE BACKSWING….

SOME COMMON CAUSES;

Right arm pulls to the inside on the backswing (left arm for left handed golfer)

Shoulders turn too flat on the backswing

Ball position is too far back in the stance

Too much forward press at address

The golfer’s concept of trying to produce a backswing to the inside that will produce a downswing from the inside

CURES;

Allow the club to swing straighter back and then upwards

Create more width in the takeaway by allowing the right arm to extend more in the backswing (left arm for left handed golfer)

Proper ball position, left of center (right of center for left handed golfer)

A more neutral hand position at address

Proper spine angle at address

DRILLS;

Hit half shots feeling like the club is more in front of you

Swing the club back to waist high making sure the shaft of the club is running along your toe line

Place a golf ball 10″ behind the original ball and push it backwards with the clubhead in the backswing

Use a mirror when making practice swings at home to watch the path of the backswing

Slow motion backswing hitting golf balls with a 7 iron

Practice these drills and work your way to a better backswing!
